Why Your Group Is All Over the Target
What’s happening
The other patterns on this page all point to one specific, fixable cause because the group has a clear shape. A group with no obvious direction — scattered fairly evenly around point of aim — usually means several fundamentals are each contributing a little error rather than one dominant issue.
Why it happens
- Inconsistent grip or stance from shot to shot, not one repeatable error
- Rushing the shot — trying to break it the instant the sights look "good enough" instead of accepting natural wobble
- Sight alignment/sight picture not fully verified before the press each time
Drill: Slow-fire fundamentals reset
Go back to slow fire at a closer distance than you're used to — 5-7m — with no par time. One shot at a time: grip, stance, sight picture, breath, press. Don't move on until each shot lands where you called it. Stretch distance back out only once groups tighten up, so you're reinforcing the same fundamentals at range instead of practicing the scatter.
